Cable Operators to stop New Tariff Plans

New Delhi, December 25: Around 200 cable TV operators from the district submitted a petition to collector T N Hariharan to represent them to the state govt on a new broadcast tariff regulation of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India to collect a fee for separate channels, as it would increase charges paid by people.


Cable operators said they were present charging Rs 150 for 300 channels and Rs 200 for 400 channels. But the new rule mandates that the operators should charge Rs 130 and GST of 18% for minimum 100 channels, which would come around Rs 150. and for 25 more channels, we have to chargers 25 and gst for every extra channel, we have to charge about Rs 17," said CV Dinesh , the district president of Thamizhaga Cable TV operators.

He said id the rule was implemented as planned by the Trai from January 1, it would raise the fee from current Rs 200 to around Rs 600 per month.

This would heavily burden people from rural areas for whom cable TV is a primary source of entertainment and also a source of information. besides, the fee hike would creat animosity between and us " he said.
