Dibrugarh, December 25: A dream of 21 years has become true for the people of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The longest rail-cum-road bridge is inaugurated by Honorable Prime Minister Narendra Modi on today. It is named as Bogibeel bridge. it is the 2nd biggest bridge in Asia. Bogibeel is constructed on the Bramhaputra river.

The foundation stone of the bridge is laid in 1997 by the then prime minister HD Deve Gowda. but the construction is inaugurated by late former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee in 2002.

Arunachal Pradesh is the country s eastern-most state which shares the border with China. Bogibeel bridge is located 20km away from Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border. this is the longest rail-cum-road bridge of India with the total length of 4.9 kilometers.it is built at the cost of around Rs 5,920 crore

The Bogibeel situated 17km downstream of Dibrugarh and Dhemaji. the bridge is expected to act as an alternative to the Kolia Bhomora Sethu.

this bridge will provide a connection between the Rangia-Murkongselek section of the northeast frontier railway. The Bogibeel bridge will reduce the journey of ten hours.

the four special trains will run from Gogamukh in Lakhimpur district and Murkongselek in Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.
