Eco-friendly waste water treatment plant ready at Mathura district

Mathura, Feb 14: A unique eco-friendly waste water treatment plant, with a capacity of 75,000 litres, is almost complete at the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Dham in the town of Farah in Mathura district.Talking to media, Indian Agricultural Research Institute director Ravinder Kaur said: "After years of research, we have perfected this totally eco-friendly treatment system which does not depend on chemicals or energy. It is a combination of water harvesting and waste water treatment plant through use of certain types of weeds and plants which we have identified over the years."Such decentralised plants can be set up anywhere requiring neither energy nor trained manpower. No sludge is generated, Kaur added. "At the ICAR Pusa centre, we have a 22 lakh-litre treatment plant working efficiently."The organic waste can be used for making briquettes for burning, generating income for the locals. The system is cost-effective, workable and without any recurring expenses on energy or labour, the director claimed.Such plants are now being constructed in all the states. Drains opening into the rivers can be used for locating the plants to ensure that polluted water does not enter the water bodies.
