Priyanka Gandhi entry in Politics

New Delhi, January 23: Rahul Gandhi, Congress president appointed his sister Priyanka Gandhi as the general secretary in charge of Uttar Pradesh east for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections on January 23, finally marking the formal entry of former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi s daughter in politics.

Jyotiraditya Scindia has been appointed as the General Secretary for UP West. KC Venugopal has been appointed as the AICC General Secretary (Organisation); he replaces Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot.

The area Priyanka has been given charge of is quite significant as her campaign will center on east UP, home to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Lok Sabha constituency, Varanasi, and CM Yogi Adityanath’s stronghold and former parliamentary seat, Gorakhpur.

After the big announcement, Rahul Gandhi said, he had given her a challenge in Uttar Pradesh, a politically important state. "My sister, who is capable and hard-working, will work with me. I am personally very happy and excited. Jyotiraditya is also a very dynamic leader," he said.

The BJP was quick to seize the opportunity to attack Rahul Gandhi, saying the announcement means the Congress has formally declared him a “failure”.
