Those earning below Rs 8 lakh will be able to avail the benefits, initial reports said. Modi government on Monday approved 10 percent reservation economically weaker people among the general category in jobs and education.

"It is a historic day. There were economically poor people in the upper caste who used to think that if everyone was getting a reservation then why not them. Now, it has been given to them by PM Modi. PM has proved that he is going on the path of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikaas ", BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said.

To implement the decision, the NDA government will require to push for a Constitutional amendment to increase the limit of quota from a maximum of 50 percent to 60 percent. According to information, the government could move the amendment in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
