Kalyana Lakshmi crossed one lakh SC beneficiaries

Hyderabad, January 25: Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao was well known for implementing beneficial schemes for people. As we know that Kalyana Lakshmi—one of the KCR s schemes aimed to help the girls from financially backward families get married — registered over one lakh beneficiaries from the SC community alone.

Actually, the eligible candidates will get 51,000 for performing the wedding, but it is increased to Rs 1,00,116 by the State government for all communities. This scheme was not only helped to 1,02,279 young women to step into the next phase of life but also relieved their below poverty line (BPL) families of the financial burden, which usually follows after getting the daughters married.

The number of beneficiaries in the SC community rose from 5,105 candidates in 2014 to 1,02,279 in December 2018. Out of the 1,23,660 applications received since the inception of the scheme, 90% were provided with financial assistance by the government, while some could not avail of the scheme as they failed to meet the required eligibility criteria. So, the State government spent Rs 625 crore towards the beneficiaries of the scheme in the SC community.

“The scheme is very popular in the State, and SC beneficiaries crossing one lakh is a positive development. 90% of the applicants are benefitting from the scheme,” a senior official of the SC Development Department said.
