TRS got 60% in first phase GP

Hyderabad, January 23: First phase Panchayat Elections was successfully completed on Monday in Telangana. In this elections TRS, the ruling party in Telangana grab 60% of the total 4,470 Gram Panchayats which went to polls in the first phase.

In the first phase elections which are held on Monday, a total of 85 percent voter turnout was recorded as about 41.56 lakh voters exercised their franchise. Though the elections were held without party symbols, the TRS supported candidates dominated the polls throughout the campaign as well as during the election results.


More than 2,600 sarpanch posts including the majority of 769 panchayats where elections were declared unanimous are learned to have been bagged by the TRS.

While Congress managed to win about 900 sarpanch posts, independents were crowned in 758 panchayats. Results to about 14 panchayats were withheld due to various reasons including candidates seeking recounting of votes in close fights.

The second phase elections will be held on January 25. Elections to 788 out of 4,135 panchayats were declared unanimous after scrutiny of nominations.
