Telangana roads will be developed as National Highways

Hyderabad, December 24: The Roads and buildings (R&B) Minister Tummala Nageshwara Rao had told that,"The Telangana state government will soon send proposals to the Centre for developing 2,000 to 2,500 km-long stretches of state roads as National Highways (NH).The state government had already nailed 20 national highways packages from the Centre covering a length of 2,872 km in the last two years.The minister also said that, "the state government planned to develop roads at a cost of Rs 21,000 crore, about Rs 13,360 crore worth of works were already sanctioned, including relaying of 5,150 km roads. He said the total length of the NHs has reached to 5,399 km in the state".Earlier, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao stated about roads,"The NH length has increased considerably due to efforts of the government and also support from the Centre. He thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari for sanctioning various national highway projects to the state.KCR said that, "Telangana region was discriminated on several fronts in the combined state including in the sanction of national highways.When the state was formed, the length of NH was 2,527 km with a density of 2.20 km per 100 sq km compared to 3.15 km per 100 sq km in AP . In fact, we were at the bottom in national highways density in South India.Now, the length has reached to 5,399 km," he added.He also said that, Gadkari recently announced `8,000 crore worth of projects to be taken up by National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) for upgrading existing roads into four-lane ones.The Centre had also sanctioned road improvement projects under Regional Ring Road (RRR) in Hyderabad metropolitan region area.
