My films have never made money: Vishal Bhardwaj

Mumbai, Oct 24 : National Award-winning filmmaker and composer Vishal Bhardwaj says his films have never worked at the box office. Asked about his way of dealing with failures, the filmmaker said at a panel discussion at the Jio MAMI 18th Mumbai Film Festival with Star here on Sunday that his films so far, haven t minted money."No film of mine has worked at the box office. They never made money... none of my films. Haider just recovered money. Not even Omkara I was told. But it doesn t bother (me). I have chosen to make such kind of films. I don t expect a big dhamaka . If it ever happens, I will probably introspect," he said. The movies might have not made it big in terms of money or profit, but his films have been honoured at various festivals.Made with Kashmir as its backdrop, "Haider", starring Shahid Kapoor, won the People s Choice Award in the Mondo Genere (world genre) at the ninth edition of the Rome Film Festival. It also won the prestigious National Film Award in 2015.Which one was his toughest film?" Makdee was the toughest film. After I made the film, the children s society rejected it and I had to release it on my own," the director said about the 2002 film, which also received the National Film Award.Makers like National award winning level are much more important rather than making out-out films. Lets hope for likely kind of Directors who eventually strive to achieve national level of recognition.
