Vijayawada, October 20 : It has become a routine for all political parties to promise construction of Bandar port before elections and conveniently forgetting it after coming to power. Bandar port was the main economic source for Britishers who ruled India in the past. After the country attained independence, the port sans development remains for the past 30 years, except as one of the points of party agendas.Telugu Desam Party after coming to power in Andhra Pradesh State promised to construct the port within six months. A notification was issued for acquiring about 33,000 acres of land. Apart from farmers, a few leaders and activists of the ruling party opposed to give up their lands. On the other hand, Bhu Parirakshana Porata Samithi members have been visiting the 29 villages, in which a notification was issued for land pooling for Bandar port and industrial corridor, and enlightening the farmers and public about the issue.Machilipatnam MP Konakalla Narayana and Minister Kollu Ravindra are putting all their efforts to convince the farmers to give up their lands. The farmers are questioning the government about their life if they give up their lands. The farmers unions leaders alleged that the government is doing business with their lands. They warned of intensifying their agitation if the government doesn?t stop snatching their lands from them.
