Hyderabad, March 08: The Madannapet police were arrested a man and his mother for cheating his wife, whom he married by allegedly pretending to be a Muslim.

The details of a case registered by police came to light after the 19-year-old woman identified as Farheen Begum sought assistance of former MBT Corporator Amjadullah Khan in approaching the police.

According to Mr. Khan, the woman married a man named Mohammed Yusuf in August 2015 who later took her to Mumbai. In her statement to the police, the woman claimed she later discovered her husband and his family were Hindu and not Muslims.

Her husband’s name is Sumit, she claimed. When she confronted her in-laws, she claimed she was tortured and sexually abused by her father-in-law and her husband’s friends.

The police slapped a case on Yusuf and his family members under sections 417 (cheating), 370 (human trafficking) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
