Guinness world record attempt by 2,500 Girls

Hyderabad March 6: On the eve of International Woman's Day, maximum of 2,500 girl students attempted to create a Guinness record for the single largest group performing Lavani dance.

A traditional song and dance form of Maharashtra, performers of Lavani dance dress in traditional nine-yard saree.

The students, aged under 15, were selected from various schools and trained by Nilima Dance Academy. The organizers said the students kept practicing despite the examinations, to attempt the record.

"We wish to break our own record created earlier of getting 600 students perform as a group. This attempt is being made on the occasion of International Women’s Day to convey the message that women can achieve anything," one of the organizers said.

Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya, who attended the event, lauded the effort of the students
