Dalit committees protest against Dharmaram SI

Peddapalli, March 06: The residents of dalit women and TRS,TDP,CITU activits along with dalit organisations had protested against Sub-Inspector of Dharmaram for the attack on a dalit couple here on Monday.

The and residents of Boompalli village also staged a 'rasta roko' at civil hospital in Peddapalli town to protest against by Dharmaram SI Haribabu.

Vehicular traffic came to a standstill on Rajiv Rahadari for a while as the agitating people refused to withdraw their protest until SI was suspended. Police cleared the traffic by shifting the protesters to police station.

According to agitating people, SI Haribabu attacked the couple Devender, his wife Shyamala and their two children, while the later were going to their fields located in the outskirts of Boompalli to supply water on Saturday night.



Besides hitting them, SI also arrested them and registered a case against Devender for revolting against police, they said and demanded action against SI.

Contrary with the victim's allegation, police said that the couple along with their children were waiting in an autorikshaw on the outskirts of village at around 10.30 pm. SI, who was moving from Peddapalli to Dharmaram as part of patrolling stopped his vehicle at the spot after seeing the auto and questioned the people sitting inside.

An argument took place between SI and victims, as Devender questioned the authority of Dharmaram SI to conduct patrolling in Basanthnagar police station limits. Enraged over the incident, SI hit Devender and informed the matter to CI Mahesh, who advised SI to bring them to police station.

It is learnt that the couple left their home after quarreling with other family members and were waiting in an autorickshaw when the police patrol vehicle reached the spot.
