Cabbies arrested for assaulting woman

Hyderabad, March 03: The Rachakonda police were arrested two persons, who were allegedly tried to abduct a lady from L.B. Nagar and were on Thursday.

Two bike-borne persons approached her, while the woman was waiting at the L.B. Nagar bus stop to take a bus for Guntur late in the night three days ago. Claiming that they were cab drivers, they sought to know where she was going.

On being told that she was working as an IT employee, who was waiting for a bus to Guntur, they convinced that they too were looking out for passengers to travel in their cab to the same place.

"It was 3 a.m. then. The accused left on their bike and returned in a car within a few minutes," Rachakonda police officials said.

The accused waited till the car passed Hayathnagar. "Then they started misbehaving with her. Both tried to make sexual advances. The shocked woman started shouting for help but the two men rolled up the window glasses ensuring her voice was not heard," the investigators explained.

Even as the woman resisted and screamed for help, the duo continued to harass her. As the woman raised an alarm, one of them got out of the car apparently worried of being caught.

The second person continued to drive and stopped at a secluded place near Choutuppal and tried to sexually assault her. The moment they got out of the car, the woman locked the doors and started banging on the doors shouting for help.

Scared of attracting attention of others, the duo opened the car doors with the key, pulled the woman out and sped away.

The IT employee returned to L.B. Nagar and lodged a complaint with the local police.

Based on the description of the car given by her, the Special Operations Team sleuths of Rachakonda Commissionerate identified the car and caught the duo. The accused were identified as Venugopal and Immanuel.
