Senior Maoist leader Maranna surrendered to Police

Vijayawada: Member of Andhra-Orissa special zone committee Mutthannagiri Jalandhar Reddy alias Maranna,40, has surrendered to police, according to Director General of Police Gautham Sawang.

Informing this to reporters here on Tuesday, the AP DGP said Maranna, who was involved in several incidents of attacks on police stations, carried a Rs.20 lakh reward on his head. He belonged to Kopalli in Siddipet district of Telangana and joined the Medak district committee
initially. He was involved in several attacks in AOB and was directly involved in the Balimela incident of 2008, the DGP revealed.
Maranna, who was also an accused in six murders, had decided to join the mainstream since the party did not have public support, Sawang stated. There was also no recruitment in the party with the police activity stepped up in the AOB.

He said the state government would extend Maranna all the facilities which are provided to surrendered extremists.
