Over 34 pc polling  recorded in Dubbak Constituency by-election in Telangana

Over 34 per cent polling was recorded in the Dubbak Assembly Constituency by-election in the four hours till 1100 hrs on Tuesday , officials said here.

According to State Chief Electoral Officer DR Shashank Goel , 34.33 per cent votes had cast their votes since 0700 hrs amid Covid-19 protocol.

The polling involving more than 1.98 lakh electorate at 315 polling stations in the constituency was in progress peacefully and will be concluded at 1800 hrs.
Women voters outnumber men in the constituency.

Voters in the queues are observing social distance and they are being allowed into the polling stations after thermal screening.

The authorities have allotted the last one hour for COVID patients to cast their votes. They have so far identified 73 patients.

Tight security arrangements were made especially in more than 80 sensitive polling stations to ensure orderly polling.

The bypoll is necessitated by the death of sitting TRS MLA Solipeta Ramalinga Reddy due to health problems in August this year and the TRS has fielded his widow Solipeta Sujatha as its candidate.

Around 23 candidates are in the fray for Dubbak seat, where a triangular fight among the ruling TRS, BJP and Congress party is expected.

The Congress has given ticket to TRS leader Cheruku Srinivas Reddy who joined the party just ahead of the bypoll.

The BJP, meanwhile, has fielded M Raghunandan Rao who lost in Dubbak in the previous Assembly elections.
