People consuming sanitizers .. Jagan Consider to reduce Liquor Price

People consuming sanitizers and meeting a fatal end to their lives has become a very common phenomenon in Andhra Pradesh. The incidence of people consuming hand sanitizers for alcohol is on the rise in the state. The latest is in Tirupathi where four alcoholics consumed sanitizer and died. But why are people consuming hand sanitizer?

The first reason is that liquor has become very pricy in Andhra Pradesh. General public, labourers and daily wage workers are finding it difficult to buy liquor from wine shops. Yet another reason is the lockdown, during this period people did not get access to liquor anywhere in the state, but easily and mostly freely got alcohol based hand sanitizer. This prompted them to get addicted to it unknowing the problems associated with its consumption.



Reacting to numerous deaths due to sanitizers, the AP is contemplating on reducing the liquor prices in the state. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy who is for total prohibition in phased manner went on to increase the price of the liquor by 75% and moreover no regular brands are available in the state. So these are leading to people dying consuming hand sanitizers.

Consuming liquor four people in Scavengers Colony in Tirupati died last night. According the deceased family members, all the four were alcoholics. They consumed hand sanitizer as they could not afford liquor. Since the implementation of lockdown, these got used to consuming sanitizers.

Recently 11 people died in Prakasam district, one in Kadapa three days ago and a month ago mother'son duo died consuming hand sanitizer in Visakhapatnam. There were resports of deaths of the same cause reported in Chittoor district bas well. The consumption of hand sanitizer has become rampant in AP.

Over the couple of day CM Jagan has been considering to reduce the prices of liquor since it could help in controlling the deaths due to consumption of hand sanitizers. It is said cheap sanitizer bottle are available in the market for jus Rs 35, so the poor addicts prefer this over liquor due to price. After having looked at all the angles to the problem, it is said that Jagan will soon be announcing the price slash for liquor.
