Hyderabad, Aug 18: The Telangana government on Friday announced Rs. 25 crore financial assistance to the flood-hit Kerala.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao has directed Chief Secretary S.K. Joshi to ensure that this amount reached Kerala immediately.
As the drinking water is getting polluted due to floods in Kerala, he asked officials to despatch R.O machines worth Rs. 2.50 crore.
Mr Rao appealed to industrialists, businessmen and others to come forward and help Kerala.
According to a statement from the Chief Minister's office, if donations are given to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, arrangements will be made to send them to Kerala.
"It is the responsibility of Telangana people to come to that state's rescue," KCR said.
The Telangana CM also expressed deep sorrow on the loss of life and property and expressed the hope that Kerala will return back to normalcy at the earliest.
The Telangana government said that it was ready to extend any necessary help to the state of Kerala.
Additionally, the CMO in a statement said, "Telangana Foods (a state govt enterprise) is despatching 100 metric tonnes of 'Balamrutham' (nutritious food manufactured especially for children) costing Rs 52.5 lakh to Kerala to feed the flood-stranded children of Kerala."
The food stock will be airlifted by a Defence Aircraft from Begumpet Airport on Saturday morning at around 7:30 am.
Earlier in the day, Telangana IT Minister KT Rama Rao also shared a link where people could donate to rebuild the state and tweeted, "Kerala is facing its worst flood in 100 years. 80 dams opened, many lives lost and several lakh people are in about 1,500+ relief camps. Your help can rebuild the lives of the affected."
The help extended by Telangana comes even as the Andhra Pradesh government also extended help to Kerala.
Taking to Twitter, Andhra Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu announced that the state will contribute Rs 5 crore for the relief work in Kerala.
