Rs 9.5 lakh fine on Youtube

New Delhi, July 11: In a shocking incident, The Delhi High Court judge, Justice Najmi Waziri, slapped a fine of Rs 950,000 on YouTube for not removing an 'offensive' video from its platform.

The content that was asked to be removed was targeted against the IVF practices of a Delhi-based female doctor. The Rs. 950,000 fine includes a punishment for wasting judicial time - Rs. 50,000 for each of the nine hearings that took place over the last 64 days.

It is reported that in June 2015, a trial court had directed youtube and its parent company, Google, to remove the said content from its channel across the world. Youtube, then filed an appeal with the Delhi High court.

Citing technological reasons, Youtube asked the court for an extension to comply with the decision, after 9 hearings, youtube communicated its inability to remove the said video due to technical reasons.

Court refuses to dismiss Youtube' claim. The court also ordered a fine of Rs 9.50 lakh.
