Rajinikanth Kaala Review

Hyderabad, June 07: Finally The wait is over. Tamil Superstar Rajinikanth today returned to cinema halls with epic Kaala, a gangster flick set in the backdrop of Mumbai's Dharavi.

This is the second consecutive outing of director Pa Ranjith with the Thalaivar after 2016's Kabali. The film went disaster talk at the box office.

Kaala is a movie that showcases slum people fighting against local leaders, who are planning on encroaching Dharavi for 'Pure Mumbai' project.

Story :

Kaala (Rajinikanth) is the leader for people in Dharavi, Mumbai. They trust, love and obeys for his command. Kaala is the most influential personality in Dharavi and decides who should win in the election. He has a beautiful family comprising his innocent wife Selvi (Eshwari Rao), four sons and grandchildren. Kaala has a subtle nostalgic romantic angle with his ex-lover Zareena (Huma Qureshi).

His life goes well till the arrival of a selfish politician Hari (Nana Patekar) who wants to grab Dharavi in the name of purifying the slums. The rest of the film is all about the battle between the black yet honest Kaala and white yet evil Hari

Performance:

The direction is realistic. Pa. Ranjith has discussed slum people issues well. Many dialogues help Rajinikanth political aspirations. Rajinikanth performance outstanding.

Positives:

Super Star mass elevation with in a stylish manner especially in Flyover fight , Interval block and Police Station scenes

Rajini political aspiration dialogues

Honestly sticking to the core theme

Negatives :

Slow Narration – a typical of Pa. Ranjith

Songs. Especially lyrics in Telugu make you cringe.

Movie theme might not appeal to everyone.

SMTV Review:3/5

Verdict :

Kaala is a good themed film without missing Rajini's mass elements.
