Karnataka Elections: The ball is now in the court of state governor Vajubhai Bala.

Bangalore, May 16: As we knew that, election results plunged Karnataka into a Game of Thrones, the man who is set to make the most important decision is Governor Vajubhai Vala, a Gujarat veteran.

Vajubhai Vala had always kept BJP’s interest ahead of his own when he was an active party man. Now, as the Karnataka governor, he has to decide between the party he once represented and the Congress-JDS combine as both sides seek to form the next government after the state elected a hung assembly.

He served as the BJP president in the state three times when the party was facing rebellion, then making way for others whenever it was demanded of him. He vacated his seat that he held since 1985 for Narendrabhai. It has always been party first for him,” said a BJP leader.

Karnataka governor Vajubhai R Vala, 79, an old BJP warhorse, has spent close to six decades in public life, holding key portfolios like finance minister of Gujarat and Speaker of its Assembly. But nothing that he's done before, including presenting the Gujarat budget a record 18 times, will be as important as what he will do over the next few days. Surely he is the unsung hero of Karnataka elections.
