CAG Report on AP Projects, APCC demands inquiry

Vijayawada, Apr 09: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) demanded an inquiry by a sitting High Court Judge on the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG)'s report which indicted Andhra Pradesh government for delay in completing the construction of irrigation projects which led to an escalation of estimation cost.

In a statement here on Sunday, APCC Official Spokesperson Kolanukonda Shivaji said that the CAG in its report indicted Chandrababu Naidu led government for delay in the completion irrigation projects in the state, which caused escalation of cost to a whopping of over Rs.27,403 crore.

Mr.Shivaji said that the CAG in its report said that the estimation cost of the projects was hiked, ignoring guidelines, which benefited the contractors substantially. He explained that the CAG said that 270 irrigation projects had to be completed by 2017 but none of the project had been completed so far which resulted in escalation of estimation cost by about Rs.28,000 crore.

According to the CAG report, the estimation cost of the projects had been hiked by 27 per cent to 50 per cent.

The Congress leader alleged that the Telugu Desam party leaders are finding fault with the CAG report in a bid to defend themselves. Going by the CAG report, the government's claim of achieving double digit growth seemed to be false. The CAG disclosed the real progress of the irrigation, electricity, education, revenue, panchayat and municipal departments.

"The CAG report is clearly indicating that corruption, in a big way, was taken place in the state in various forms" the Congress leader charged.

Mr.Shivaji said that as per the CAG report, the state government's debts have stood at Rs.76,000 crore till March 31, 2017. The APCC spokesperson demanded an inquiry on the CAG findings by High Court Sitting Judge.
