Mumbai farmers Called off Their protest

Mumbai, Mar 12: The protest in Mumbai is likely to be called off after the farmers reached an agreement with the Devendra Fadnavis government.

The government has agreed to give written assurances that it would address their grievances within the next six months.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took cognizance of the tribal people's demands for forest land rights, saying his government takes their concerns seriously. He assured the leaders that the government would try to resolve forest land-related issues within six months. I

Government also promised to form a special team headed by the chief secretary to look into the re-verification of disputed or controversial land titles in tribal areas.

A 12-member delegation of the protesting farmers had met a six-member government committee, even as a statement by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis angered the farmers further.
