Woman  Died because of  chasing by Police

Chennai, Mar 08: In yet another shocking case of police brutality, a 30-year-old pregnant woman was killed after a traffic policeman kicked the two-wheeler she was riding on with her husband at Thuvakudi near Trichy.

The woman was identified as Usha and was riding pillion with her husband. The couple was near the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited headquarters at Thuvakudi when a police team asked them to stop as the husband was not wearing a helmet.

When he tried to flee, the policeman, Kamaraj, chased them on another two-wheeler and then allegedly kicked their vehicle. The bike wobbled and the couple fell on the ground, reports added.

Usha sustained a head injury and died on the spot, Raja was also seriously injured.

Condemning the incident, thousands gathered in protest near the Trichy-Thanjavur highway and blocked the roads.

The protestors alleged that the accused policeman, Kamaraj, was drunk and demanded immediate action against him.

The situation turned violent as some of the agitators started pelting stones at some other police vehicles. The police too retaliated with lathi charge to clear the protestors, severely injuring many.
