PM Modi condoles death of Sri Jayendra Saraswathi

Chennai Feb 28: Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamy, the senior seer of Kancheepuram Sankara Mutt, passed away on Wednesday.He has died due to illness.Earlier he was admitted in hospital because of breathing problems.

Prime Minister Modi had expressed his condolences and has tweeted that "Jagadguru Pujyashri Jayendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya was at the forefront of innumerable community service initiatives. He nurtured institutions which transformed the lives of the poor and downtrodden."

He had also tweeted that "Deeply anguished by the passing away of Acharya of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam Jagadguru Pujyashri Jayendra Saraswathi Shankaracharya. He will live on in the hearts and minds of lakhs of devotees due to his exemplary service and noblest thoughts. Om Shanti to the departed soul."

Jayendra Saraswathi was head of the Kanchi Mutt or Hindu monastery established by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century and had a huge following in South India.
