Telangana Govt set to procure red jowar at Rs. 2,300 per quintal

Hyderabad, Feb 16: The Telangana State government has decided to procure red jowar from farmers paying a support price of Rs. 2,300 a quintal.

Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy announced here on Thursday that Markfed would open procurement centres from Monday for purchasing the commodity from farmers. The decision comes in the light of agitation launched by farmers in Nizamabad in support of their demand for procurement by the government.

The Minister addressing a press conference here on Thursday evening, along with Nizamabad MP Kalvakuntla Kavitha, said Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, who is camping in New Delhi, responded positively to the procurement of red jowar.

He criticised the Congress for creating "unnecessary ruckus"on the issue. Ms. Kavitha said the decision to procure red jowar was taken a couple of days ago.
