Rs 24 crore collection on Day 1-Padmaavat

The paid previews of Padmaavat that opened a day prior to its January 25 release, saw a dismal earning of Rs 5 crore. Thanks to the ongoing protests and agitation by Rajput Karni Sena. In such a climate of tension, all eyes were on the opening day figures. While there was anticipation for the movie and most people wanted to watch it, the continuous threats made fan skeptical about stepping out of their houses and into the theatres to watch this Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial.

Now, the official figures are out and despite a law and order situation in a lot of places and no a no showcase in 4-5 states, the film has earned Rs 24 crore at the box office. Trade analyst and senior film critic Taran Adarsh has just tweeted about the figures stating, "Despite non-screening in few states and protests/disturbances, #Padmaavat fares VERY WELL on Day 1… Had it been a peaceful/smooth all-India release, the biz would've touched Rs28 / Rs 30 cr… Wed [limited preview screenings] 5 cr, Thu 19 cr. Total:Rs 24 cr. India biz."
