UP govt orders to remove Loudspeakers installed at religious places

Lucknow Jan 7: The Uttar Pradesh Government has issued another controversial order to remove all loudspeakers present in public places, religious and otherwise, that have been installed without appropriate permission being sanctioned towards the same.

The Government has ordered this decision to curb noise pollution. The order was issued following directions from the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on the matter, citing the provisions of the Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000.

Arvind Kumar, Uttar Pradesh's Principle Secretary (Home) has said that "the loudspeaker installed in public places cannot have sound level more than 10 dB above ambient noise level at the periphery of a public place and 5 dB above ambient noise level at the periphery of a private place. This practically implies that sound should not go beyond the periphery of the public or private place."
