Govt introduces Consumer protection bill in Loksabha

New Delhi Jan 5: In a Move to empower the Consumer the government today in Loksabha has introduced The Consumer Protection Bill, 2018. Earlier the Minister has withdrawn has a similar bill The Consumer Protection Bill 2015.

Earlier the bill was introduced in 2015 and the parliamentary standing committee has scrutinized the bill and submitted its recommendations of penalizing the brand ambassadors for advertising substandard products.Later the government has accepted the recommendations and has introduced the new bill.

The government hopes that the new bill would be passed in upcoming budget session. The main highlights of the bill are

# The Bill replaces the Consumer Protection Act, 1986
# The Bill enforces consumer rights and provides a mechanism for redressal of complaints regarding a defect in goods and deficiency in services.
# Consumer Dispute Redressal Commissions will be set up at the district, state and national levels for adjudicating consumer complaints.
#The Bill establishes a Consumer Protection Authority to investigate into consumer complaints, issue safety notices for goods and services, and pass orders for the recall of goods and against misleading advertisements.
