Loksabha passes bill to hike salaries of Judges of HC and SC

New Delhi Jan 4: The Lower House of parliament on Thursday passed a bill to hike the salaries of judges of Supreme Court and High courts. Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has moved the bill and has replied to the discussion raised by various members.The bill would benefit judges of Supreme Court and 24 High courts of the country. According to the proposed bill

# The Chief Justice of India will get a monthly salary of Rs 2.80 lakh from present Rs one lakh.
# Judges of the Supreme Court and chief justices of the high courts will draw a monthly salary of Rs 2.50 lakh from the current Rs 90,000.
# The judges of the high courts will get Rs 2.25 lakh per month from present Rs 80,000.

The minister has said that the salary of the judges was revised as the government has accepted the recommendations of the 7 Pay Commission. The salary hike would be applicable from 1 Jan 2016.

The bill also proposed to increase the HRAs and pensions of the retired judges.
