Lok Sabha passes bill for construction within 100 metre of Monuments

New Delhi, Jan 03: Lok Sabha has passed a bill on Tuesday which could destruct Indian heritage structures. Construction of any structure within 100 metre of monuments is forbidden as it may damage the ancient structures.

Many heritage structures are protected by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) under Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act.

The Lok Sabha on Tuesday passed a bill to lift 100 metre cap on construction near heritage structures, after many protected monuments are in danger.

According to Lok Sabha the restriction is affecting the government's development projects.

Union culture minister Mahesh Sharma said in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday that a number of infrastructure projects were stalled due to the law.
