Railways To charge Premium Fares during Festivals?

Mumbai Dec 24: In a Bid to garner more profits the Railways May decide to introduce dynamic pricing during the festival season.Sources said that under the new proposal passengers would be charged additional fares during festival seasons such as Diwali, Durga Puja, Chhath and Christmas as these seasons witness heavy rush compared to other seasons.

Apart from this Railways is also considering other proposals such as Offering discounts for traveling in odd- hours or choosing a less popular route or train or one having no pantry services.

#passengers would also be offered discounts on trains reaching the destination at inconvenient times, for example between 0000-0400 and 1300-1700 hours.

# 10-30 percent discount be offered for first leg as well as the last leg vacant berth.
# Premium charges for overnight trains, trains with pantry cars, for allowing confirmed booking through e-auction a week in advance on popular trains may also be implemented

# Differential pricing for preferred berths like inside lower ones, cabins near doors on either side and an upgradation fee of Rs 20 per berth may also be introduced

Officials However said that A decision regarding dynamic pricing would be considered next week and may come into effect from 2018.
