Melbourne car attack: Driver is mentally ill and has drug use history

Australia, Dec 21: After the arrest of driver of SUV, which rammed number of pedestrians on a busy central Melbourne street on Thursday, police said that the driver had a history of drug use and mental issues.

19 people were injured in the attack including one young child. Chief commissioner of victoria police shane patton told reporters that the crash is considered deliberate but no evidence of terror link was found.

The incident, which occurred on Flinders Street in the city's central business district just after 4.45 pm when the area was busy with Christmas shoppers.
