Loksabha Passes Central Road Fund Ammendment bill

New Delhi Dec 20: The Loksabha in its sitting held on Tuesday had passed a bill to further amend the Central Road Fund ACT 2000. The lower has passed Central Road Fund(Amendment)Bill 2017.

The bill was introduced in the monsoon session of the parliament. The bill aims to utilize 2 .5 % of the funds of the central road fund for development of national and maintenance of national waterways. It is excepted that Rs 200O crore fund of CRF would be utilized for this purpose.

Currently, cess is levied on high-speed petrol and diesel vehicles are utilized for the development of national highways, rural roads, railways and development of state highways and border areas.

Replying to the member's queries Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that transport will be cheaper if waterways are used and my main priority is to develop waterways and earlier the parliament has passed a bill to develop 111 waterways.
