Hyderabad, Dec 19: The Spread of Telugu language through the internet has been facing digital hurdles as the problem of multilingual information retrieval in Indian languages still remains unresolved.

They discussed various issues involved in language computing, creation, display, search and retrieval of digital content.

"We should bring the individual efforts to one platform so that the usage of Telugu in cyberworld will become easier. The digital form of the language will have greater potential to reach people across the countries," said Telangana IT secretary Jayesh Ranjan. He said the government is developing several websites using Unicode.

A meet on the localization of web content as part of WTC has called for simplification of Telugu for use in the cyberworld. The IT department of Telangana, based on recommendations of the meeting, agreed in principle to encourage new internet accounts in Telugu and develop applications in the local language.

The meet discussed the evolution of digital Telugu starting from blogs, e-paper, eCommerce platforms, online platforms, Text to sound and localization initiatives. It was decided to hold a world internet conference every two years in the city to monitor implementation of Telugu in the digital world.

The government will also provide assistance to amateur entrepreneurs and software developers who develop apps and tools to spread Telugu.
