Bills to repeal 236 acts passed by Loksabha

New Delhi Dec 19: The Loksabha on Tuesday has passed two bills to repeal the old laws which are no longer required .Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has introduced in 2017 two bills to repeal 236 acts.

# Repealing and Amending Bill 2017 - to repeal 105 redundant Acts
# Repealing and Amendment (second) Bill, 2017 - 131 redundant acts would be repealed and nine ordinances by the then Governors-General.

Some of the Acts that would be repealed by these bills include
# The Ganges Tolls Act, 1867
# Caste Disabilities Removal Act of 1850
# Transfer of Evacuee Deposits Act, 1954
The bills seek to repeal some of the acts which were passed by the British government and also scrap some of the acts passed by the successive governments.

Most of them are Amendments Acts which no longer cease to exists as these provisions are incorporated in the act.
