Rahul Gandhi to file nomination papers for Congress presidential election

New Delhi, December 04: Rahul Gandhi is expected to file his nomination papers today for the post of Congress president at the party headquarters.

Paving the way for his much-awaited elevation and setting the stage for a contest against PM Narendra Modi ahead of 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Current Congress chief and his mother Sonia Gandhi and former prime minister Manmohan Singh will be among the proposers for his candidature.

Rahul Gandhi has reached former PM Dr Manmohan Singh's residence ahead of filing nomination for the post of Congress Party President.

Six chief ministers, including Punjab's Captain Amarinder Singh, Karnataka's Siddaramaiah, Himachal Pradesh's Virbhadra Singh, Puducherry's V. Narayanasamy, Meghalaya's Mukul Sangma and Mizoram's Lal Thanhawla are expected to extend support to Rahul's candidature.

Senior party leaders Ghulam Nabi Azad, A K Antony and Ahmed Patel will also sign the nomination papers expressing their confidence in the Congress vice president.
