Union Cabinet Approves National Nutrition Mission

New Delhi DEC 1: The union cabinet under the chairmanship of PM Modi has taken some crucial decisions.

# National Nutrition mission (NNM)

The union cabinet has approved NNM to ensure holistic development and adequate nutrition for adolescent girls, pregnant women, mothers, and children .

This mission would concentrate on 4 areas such as Growth Monitoring, Use of Information and communication technology, Convergence,Infant and young child feeding practices.

The mission would be monitored at 6 different levels these include, Block level at villages, district level, state level, central level (ministry of WCD), Niti Aayog would also monitor the mission.

Under this mission smartphones would be provided for Anganwadi workers and tablets would be provided for supervisors.

Ministry of health and family welfare ,Ministry of drinking water and sanitation and ministry of women and child development would jointly work together.

The beneficiaries would be monitored using their Aadhar card.The scheme would be implemented from 2017-18 to 2019-20 and Rs 9000 crore would be outlayed. Rs 7400 crore would be spent by central government and the rest would be spent by states.

The Ministry for Women and Child Development said: "the government was committed to ensure that adequate nutrition to every child and pregnant woman and lactating mother and to eliminate malnutrition and stunting."

"The mission results will be visible within a year if the government remains on the right track." Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi said.

The Ministry said it had actively leveraged technology to address malnutrition, including the development of software and its implementation in 50,000 anganwadis.

The Ministry has designed a real-time monitoring system
'ICDS-CAS' to track nutrition goals and Anganwadi functionality.
