PM Modi launches UMANG App to provide all govt services

New Delhi, Nov 23: The Prime Minister Narendra Modi has formally launched UMANG (Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance), a state and central government services app on Thursday.

A user can sign up for the app for services from the Employees Provident Fund Organisation, the Central Board of Secondary Education, Bharat Bill Pay and others.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) along with the National e-Governance Division (NeGD) have developed the app, the name of which expands to Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance.

The app has 162 services from 33 state and central government departments and four states. Using the app, one can locate CBSE exam centres, view school results, calculate crop insurance premium, access soil health cards, book OPD appointments at government hospitals and view lab reports from there, register and apply for the PMKY programme, raise EPFO claims and more.

"Apart from more than 150 government services, you can use #Umang for payment of various utility bills as well," union minister for electronics and information technology Ravi Shankar Prasad said on Twitter on Wednesday.

The PM launched the app at the inaugural ceremony of the Global Conference for Cyberspace in the capital on Thursday morning.

The app has been in the making since 2016 and is available on Android, iOS and Windows platforms.

UMANG integrates with the core government services of Aadhaar, DigiLocker, Rapid Assessment System, and Bharat Bill Payment System.

A user signing up on the app has to digitally complete KYC and link Aadhaar where required. It is currently available in 13 languages: English, Hindi, Assamese, Gujarati, Bengali, Kannada, Odia, Punjabi, Malyalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telegu, and Urdu.
