AP CM Naidu urges Scientists to invent best practices

Vijayawada, Nov 23: The Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister
N Chandrababu Naidu has asked agricultural scientists to innovate best variety of paddy seed to improve quality paddy produce.

Inaugurating India Rice conclave 2017 here on Wednesday, he said that farmers security is the need of the hour and underlined that best practices should be introduced in the agriculture sector and priority should be given for better outcome of the research practices.

He said drones should be used to monitor pest control as a pilot project during Rabi season.

The Chief Minister said the agriculture sector paving way for 27.5 per cent GSDP growth rate and providing 60 per cent employment in rural areas.



Mr. Naidu said that while the paddy production stands at 120 lakh metric tonnes in Andhra Pradesh, the consumption stands at 80 to 90 lakh metric tonnes.

Asking the scientists to work on how to reduce the cost of production, the Chief Minister said that best practices should be adopted in paddy cultivation. When China is producing 8000 KG paddy per hectare, why not Andhra Pradesh, he asked.

Mr. Naidu informed the paddy production stands at 2440 per hectare in India and 5190 KG per hectare in Andhra Pradesh.

The Chief Minister asked the scientists to prepare an action plan to introduce best practices in paddy cultivation during the rabi season. He said the increase in the agricultural economy will help to stabilize the economic growth rate in the state.
