KTR :40 new municipalities to be established

Hyderabad Nov 15: Telangana Government has mulled to create 40 new municipalities and also expand the existing municipalities in the state. Telangana state Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister K T Rama Rao on Tuesday held a video conference with the district collectors in this regard.

Minister has said that "numerous proposals were received from elected representatives and people's organisations for expansion of existing municipalities and also the creation of new municipalities from major gram panchayats or nagara panchayats. "

"For effective administration and accelerate urbanisation, we need to create new municipal bodies in the State. We have already received representations from major gram panchayats like Ramayampeta, Bhanswada and Narsapur for upgrading them as municipalities" he added.

The Minister has ordered the district collectors to "identify major gram panchayats with a population of 15,000 and above as per 2011 census and also Telangana State Integrated Family Survey which can be upgraded into municipalities. We should also identify municipalities whose areas can be expanded with merger of villages within 3-5 km radius".
