Vice President to inaugurate Urban Mobility India conference

Hyderabad, Nov 4: The Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu will inaugurate the three-day conference of 10th Urban Mobility India in Hyderabad here on today.

The three-day conference is jointly being organized by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, Government of Telangana and French Organisation CODATU involved in urban transportation.

Announcing this at a press conference here on Friday, Mr. Mukund Kumar Sinha, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, said urbanization in India was growing at an exponential rate. The cities being engines of growth were facing challenges like pollution, congestion on roads and lack of infrastructure, he said.

He said about 1000 policy makers including Mayors and Municipal Councillors, urban planners from 20 Indian states and 25 foreign countries, would participate in the conference and deliberate on various aspects of 86 urban cities including 36 foreign cities, he said.

Telangana Information and Public Relations Commissioner Navin Mittal expressed happiness over the conference being organized in Hyderabad which is a fine example of a city which is coming to terms with its growing population and providing urban transport with the upcoming Metro Rail Project.
