Bengal government seals Gorkha Janmukti Morcha main office

On Wednesday, the Bengal government has sealed the main office of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) in Darjeeling. The reason for sealing the office was said to be illegal construction.

Darjeeling district magistrate Joyshi Dasgupta said that the land belonged to government and has been illegally registered on the name of Avinash Gurung, son of GJM president.

Bimal Gurung who was leading the movement for separate Gorkhaland, is on the run after many sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act were charged against him. According to the reports he may be hiding in Sikkim.



Avik Chatterjee, sub-divisional officer of Darjeeling reached the building with a police force. The officers pasted a notice at the entrance. It said: “This property and land belongs to the Government of West Bengal. Entry is forbidden.”. and the building was sealed.
