Chennai faces 2015 recap as heavy rains lash city

Chennai Oct 31: Chennai people are facing a similar situation that they have faced 2 years ago. Heavy rains have lashed the city on Monday and this has brought the city to a standstill position.

The situation has eased a little as rains have stopped but the traffic is not yet being cleared and the vehicular movement is at a snail pace as water logging took places in some parts of the city and low lying areas have been flooded by heavy showers.

The Authorities have closed schools and colleges in Chennai and adjoining areas of Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur as a precautionary measure. Many people have complained regarding the power shortages.

Various other cities of Tamilnadu have also received heavy rains and the Officials have alerted the state government and predicted that state would receive more rainfall in coming days.

Officials said that " a 38-year-old man was killed in Thinnaiyoor near Thanjavur district’s Orathanadu after the mud wall of his hut collapsed due to the heavy rains on Monday."

However many people have criticised the city development officers as they have not learnt lessons from the 2015 experience where the city was flooded with heavy rainfall.
