TPCC Chief accuses TRS Govt over farmers suicides

Hyderabad, Oct 26: TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Wednesday appealed to farmers and Congress workers across the state to participate in the 'Chalo Assembly' rally to be held on October 27, the first day of the Assembly session.

Addressing reporters at the Gandhi Bhavan, Mr. Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the 'Chalo Assembly' rally would be taken out in a democratic and peaceful manner.

He said that the agitation was being organized to expose the indifference of the TRS government towards farmers. Justifying the timing of the rally, Mr. Reddy said that Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao never honored the promises he made to farmers on multiple occasions on the floor of the Assembly.

Condemning irrigation minister T. Harish Rao's criticism of the rally, the TPCC chief asked the minister to clarify whether the CM should be held accountable for the commitment he had made on the Floor of the House. He said that the farmers and Congress workers would assembly at Gandhi Bhavan at 9 am on October 27 and march towards the Assembly.

Mr. Reddy said that Congress was all set to return to power in 2019 and would waive crop loans up to Rs 2 lakh in one go.

He said that the conditions for the farming sector have turned so bad that thousands of farmers have committed suicide during the last three years.

Terming the farmer suicides as 'institutional murders', he slammed the Chief Minister and his Cabinet for not even making a mention of those suicides in their statements.
