Bharatmala-A impetus for Job creation

NewDelhi Oct 25: The Union Government in a move to boost the economy and also create an impetus for long-term job creation has approved the Bharat Mala Programme.Under the first phase, 24,000 Km of Roads would be constructed by March 2022 and the rest under Bharatmala Phase -2

# 83,677 km of roads will be built over the next five years.

# Rs 6.92 lakh crore would be spent on the construction of roads

# 14.2 crore man-days of jobs would be created.

# Economic Corridors (9,000 km)

# Inter Corridor and Feeder Route (6,000 km)

# National Corridors Efficiency Improvement (5,000 km)

# Border Roads and International Connectivity (2,000 km)



# Coastal Roads and Port Connectivity (2,000 km)

# Greenfield Expressways (800 km)

# Balance NHDP works (10,000 km)

The works would be taken up NHAI, NHIDCL, MoRTH and State PWDs.

# Rs 2.09 lakh crore will be raised as debt from the market

# Rs 1.06 lakh crore of private investments would be mobilized through PPP

# Rs 2.19 lakh crore will be provided out of accruals to the
Central Road Fund (CRF), ToT Monetisation proceeds and toll collections of NHAI.

Addressing the media Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has said that "This project would ensure seamless connectivity between all major economic corridors reduce traffic congestion in cities, Many districts would be connected with national Highways and Logistic cost would come down significantly".

He has also said that "construction of roads would reduce the accidents and Multi-Modal Logistic parks, roadside amenities would and speed of vehicular traffic would be increased by 20 %".
