Challenges faced in the implementation of RTE

Our Government is harping over literacy, education of girl child like points for so many decades. In UPA government time in 2009, some how Right to Education ACT (RTE) came into existence. This act provides free and compulsory education for all the children in the age group 6-14.Already we have a law forbidding employment of children of 15 years below age.

There was emphasis on the teacher-student ratio, infrastructure and 25 % reservations was also imposed on schools .These obligations push the private school managements towards the wall. The financial positions of so many private schools may not be so strong .The private schools try their best to stay ahead in improving quality education by their teachers with innovative methods.

The salary of teachers also may or may not be on par with government teachers. To attract merit, these private managements pay more to certain skilled staff. Then they charge higher fees from parents.Any Restrictions on this irritates and discontentment pervades.

Moreover, our education system is not helping the school students to seek employment at the earliest .Suitable teacher training also must be inserted in the RTE guidelines. If we take into consideration the teacher shortage; 9 lakh of teachers are required at the elementary level and 1 lakh at secondary school level in our country.Reading prowess and mathematical skill of students at this level is not up to the mark because of this problem.

It is ominious, recently central government is stressing on digital education ways. This has the advantage of better results with less budgets if the government can use technology in a systematic way.

Rajasthan government initiated public-private partnership model recently in educational feild. If it is suitable the same model may be emulated by other states too.
