India Post- In the service of Public

The Communication system in our country took a big turn in British period and the postal services were streamlined to maximise efficiency.The postal department with its vast network throughout the country earned laurels from poor peasant in villages to the government machinery in big cities.Up to early 1980s the postal system all towns followed age-old methods.

Cheap postal cards, inland letters,covers,registered articles fulfilled the needs of people in general.Gradually "Express Delivery" system was wound up and then "speed Post" has come into force which delivers the articles mostly in 24 hours to prominent cities and in a time bound way to almost all towns in the country.

The department which is second to railways employs more than 6 lakh personnel.With post offices more than 1.5 lakh, the services rendered by those deserves commendation.

Today Universal Postal Union (UPU) is celebrating World Postal Day(9 OCT). The Union with about 200 countries as members, the postal services are spreading across the globe.

As the need of the hour, the India post is following the digitalisation path. For the sake of financial self-sufficiency, India post has started India post Payments bank with ATM and other modern facilities.It will extend such services to many other parts of the country.

Age old Money Order System is being replaced with Electronic MOS (EMO) and Instant MOS(IMO) so that services can be provided for persons quickly.India post maintains Philatelic exhibitions for students.It is trying its best to reach all the people with its infrastructure from villages to cities in the country with PO facilities.

The present government in its endeavour to reach people is maintaining various new schemes such as Postal Life Insurance (PIL), Rural Postal Life Insurance Scheme (RPLI), sale of various applications with MOUs with other departments.With EPIC cards and the like it is serving the public in a laudable way .Still it needs a lot to implement what it wants to do in a meticulous planning.
