BBC launches new Indian services:Marathi, Gujarati, Telugu, Punjabi.

London Oct 3: BBC World Service has begun broadcasting in four new Indian languages. The new Indian languages include Marathi, Gujarati, Telugu, and Punjabi.

BBC in a statement has said that "The launch is part of the World Service's biggest expansion since the 1940s, following a government funding boost announced in 2016."

Currently, BBC World Service is now available in 40 languages, including English and the newly launched services are among the 11 new services under the 2020 project.

Many Indian leaders have shared their feelings regarding the newly launched services and Andhra Pradesh Opposition party leader YS Jagan has congratulated BBC for launching news services in Telugu.
