Bill against black magic; approved in Karnataka

In an uncommon scenario the Karnataka Government has approved a bill which prevents using Black magic. The idea of this bill was supported by chief minister Siddaramaiah four years ago.

The bill is passed to prevents and eradicate inhuman and evil practices and Black magic. It classifies 16 practices as inhuman, including assaulting a person on the pretext of exorcism; claiming to change the sex of a foetus in the womb; ‘betthale seve’, where women are paraded naked; ‘urulu seve’, where people are made to roll over on leaves with leftover food; and ‘Sidi’, where people are hung from trees using hooks drilled into their backs.

Similar type of bill was passed by Maharashtra government in 2013 due to which the idea of this bill was approved.
